Accommodation Proof for Czech Student Visa
Czech embassies require proof of where you will live in Czech Republic. Here is what is accepted and how to prepare it.
What accommodation proof is required?
Czech embassies and the Ministry of Interior require confirmation of where you will live during your studies. This must be submitted as part of your visa application and again when registering with the Foreign Police within 3 days of arrival.
Accepted forms of accommodation proof
The following documents are accepted: (1) University dormitory confirmation — a booking confirmation or allocation letter from your university's student housing office is the simplest option and most widely accepted; (2) Rental contract — a signed lease agreement with your landlord's contact details, property address, and rental period. Must be for the full duration of your visa; (3) Letter of invitation — if staying with a Czech national or permanent resident, they can issue a notarised letter of invitation (pozvání) confirming you will live at their address.
Registering with the Foreign Police on arrival
Within 3 working days of arriving in Czech Republic, you must register your address with the local Foreign Police (Cizinecká policie) office. Your accommodation proof is required for this registration. If staying in a hotel or hostel temporarily, the accommodation provider is legally required to register you on your behalf.
University dormitories vs private rental
Most international students choose university dormitories for their first year — they are cost-effective (CZK 2,500–4,500/month), easy to book, and the confirmation letter is universally accepted by Czech embassies. Private rentals in Prague typically cost CZK 8,000–15,000/month for a room. Student agencies can assist with finding private accommodation.
Key tips
Book your university dormitory as early as possible — places fill up quickly, especially at Charles University and CTU Prague.
Make sure the rental contract covers at least the initial visa/permit period — embassies may reject short-term contracts.
